How does a SEBI research analyst or investment adviser get a @valid UPI ID?
You request it on SEBI's intermediary portal through BSE's interface, complete your bank's documents, make a ₹1 test payment and tell your clients. It reads name.ra@validbank for an RA and name.ia@validbank for an IA. Offering it is mandatory, and SEBI's cut-off for all four steps was 30 November 2025.

SEBI's circular of 11 June 2025 gave every investor-facing intermediary a validated UPI address, so a client can check they are paying the real registered entity. Research analysts and investment advisers are on its list. Getting the ID and offering it is mandatory for you. Paying through it stays optional for the client.
What the ID looks like
- Your name as it appears on the SEBI registration certificate, or a registered trademark, then .ra or .ia, then @valid and your bank. For example, abcresearch.ra@validhdfc.
- The portal adds the .ra or .ia suffix itself, from your login.
- A QR code with a thumbs-up inside a green triangle. Generating it is mandatory.
- Your existing bank account works.
The four steps
- Request the UPI ID on SEBI's intermediary portal. RAs and IAs apply through BSE's interface. You enter the account number and IFSC, and the portal shows only that bank's @valid handles.
- Submit your bank's documents for KYC and NPCI whitelisting at the branch, and get the ID approved.
- Make a ₹1 transaction to the new ID.
- Tell your clients about the new ID and stop collecting on the old UPI ID.
Old UPI IDs were to stop by 8 December 2025. SEBI's letter of 15 October 2025, sent to RAs and IAs through BSE, said that not finishing all four steps by 30 November 2025 is non-compliance. If you registered after that, set it up before you take your first fee.
Only banks on SEBI's list of self-certified syndicate banks for UPI can issue the ID. The list is on SEBI's website under recognised intermediaries. Clients check your ID, QR code or bank account on SEBI Check at siportal.sebi.gov.in. For problems, BSE asks RAs to write to ra.membership@bseindia.com and IAs to ia.membership@bseindia.com.
What your website must show
SEBI asks for a clear display of the new handle on your website, FAQs that explain SEBI Check, and the @valid ID offered as a payment option. A fee page that still shows an old UPI ID is easy for BSE to spot.
Our view: the bank step takes the longest, because it runs on each bank's own KYC and NPCI whitelisting process. Take the BSE SOP and the SEBI circular with you. If you want it handled, see @valid UPI ID setup.

Does SEBI's digital accessibility rule apply to research analysts and investment advisers?
Yes. Every SEBI-registered intermediary is covered, individual RAs and IAs included. Your website, app and the documents you publish on them must meet WCAG 2.1 and Indian accessibility standards, and an IAAP-certified auditor must audit them, with the findings fixed, by 31 January 2027.
