A Memorandum of Association and a matching Rules & Regulations document for a society, covering the founding members, the objects clause, and the governing body's day-to-day operating rules.
Section 4 of the Societies Registration Act, 1860 requires filing the governing body list with the Registrar every year, within 14 days of your AGM, or in January if you don't hold one. Miss it and the central Act's own fine is Rs 500; Uttar Pradesh raises that to Rs 2,000 under its own amendment. This template writes the deadline into the Rules & Regulations as an operative clause your governing body actually signs, so it doesn't get lost.
West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh each run their own Societies Registration Act instead of the 1860 central version, so confirm your state's requirements before filing. Deciding between a society and a different structure first? Read Which Non-Profit Structure Actually Gets Picked for CSR and Grants. Registering a trust instead? Our Trust Deed template covers that filing.
Fill in the founding members, objects, and governing body details, then present the executed Memorandum and Rules & Regulations to your state's Registrar of Societies.
Have the finished documents reviewed before your founding members sign.
Registered? 12A and 80G are the step that actually determines whether your society's income stays tax-free and your donors get a deduction.

Rule 4(1) of the CSR Policy Rules 2014 puts trusts, societies, and Section 8 companies on equal footing for CSR funding. The law draws no line between them. What actually separates them is how fast a corporate CSR team can verify you.
