SEBI social media rules for registered research analysts and investment advisers: Telegram, WhatsApp and YouTube
Want to register as a SEBI research analyst or investment adviser? We prepare the application and the documents behind it.
If you are a SEBI-registered research analyst or investment adviser and you post about the market, every handle you use must show your SEBI-registered name and registration number near the handle name, and every securities-market post, short or video must open with the same two details. That rule comes from SEBI's circular of 26 February 2026 and applies to content uploaded on or after 1 May 2026. It covers closed WhatsApp and Telegram groups as well as public YouTube, Instagram and X accounts. Your promotional posts also fall under the advertisement code in your master circular.

The name and number rule
Circular HO/(79)2026-MIRSD-PODMMC is addressed to all IAs and RAs among other regulated entities. Paragraph 3(b) says what platforms it reaches: content posted on any social media platform "(whether in closed groups or publicly available groups) like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, X, Linked In, Threads, Telegram, Reddit etc."
Regulated entities and their agents ... shall prominently disclose their registered name and registration number on the home page of their social media handles as well as at the beginning of each of the videos/content (which relate to the securities market) uploaded by them.
For an adviser with one SEBI registration, paragraph 4.1(ii) puts the name and number "on the home page near the name of the social media handle" and "in the beginning of each video/shorts/content". If you hold more than one registration, say RA and IA, paragraph 4.1(iii) asks for a weblink on the handle's home page to your website listing every registered name and number, and each item opens with the registration in the capacity you are posting in.
