SEBI's circular SEBI/HO/OIAE/IGRD/CIR/P/2023/156 of 20 September 2023 sets the order. You complain to the listed company or SEBI registered intermediary first. If that does not resolve it, you file on the SCORES portal. The entity has 21 calendar days to resolve it and upload its action taken report. You then have 15 calendar days from that report to ask for a review, and the designated body files its revised report within 10 calendar days of the review being sought.
SMART ODR is the next step. SEBI Master Circular SEBI/HO/OIAE/OIAE_IAD-3/P/CIR/2023/195 (updated 28 December 2023) says when ODR opens and what bars it, such as the same matter being before a court or an arbitrator. Opting for ODR closes a pending SCORES complaint, so the order of the steps matters. SEBI's July 2026 ODR consultation is not law, and no final circular had appeared on SEBI's circulars list by 27 October 2026.
The pack gives you up to three documents depending on where you stand. If you have not yet complained, you get the complaint to the entity. The SCORES filing sheet has the registration details, the category, the complaint text in the characters the form accepts, and the attachments, up to 10 files and 20 MB in all. The SMART ODR sheet lists the time limits and who pays.

Common questions
Do I have to complain to the company or broker first?
Yes. Annexure II para 1 of the SEBI circular of 20 September 2023 sends you to the entity before SCORES. The pack writes that complaint if you have not made one.
How long does the entity have to reply?
21 calendar days from receipt of the complaint on SCORES, under Annexure I para 1.3 of the circular. You then have 15 calendar days from the date of its report to ask for a review.
Can I use SMART ODR and SCORES for the same complaint?
Opting for ODR closes a pending SCORES complaint, under Annexure II para 10 of the circular. ODR is also barred in some cases, for example when the same matter is before a court, an arbitrator or ODR. The pack's ODR sheet lists the bars from the Master Circular.
How many documents can I attach on SCORES?
Up to 10 files, 20 MB in all. The filing sheet has a place for each attachment you plan to upload.
Can I see the document before I pay?
Yes. Fill in your details and the page shows the first page of each document with your own answers in it. You pay only if it is what you need.
Can I change the document after I download it?
Yes. Each document comes as a Word file you can edit and a PDF you can print. You can also change your answers and prepare it again before you pay.
What if the payment goes through and the documents do not open?
The page checks the payment again and opens the documents on the same payment, so you are never charged twice. If they still do not arrive, write to us within 7 days and we refund the full amount.
Can you send or file it for me?
Yes. After you download, ask us to take the next step and we handle the sending or filing for you.
