Udyam Registration Process: What You Need (Self-Serve, Free)
Need help with msme? We can handle it for you.
Udyam Registration happens on exactly one official portal — udyamregistration.gov.in. It is free, self-declared (no documents or certificates to upload), and typically takes 5-10 minutes end to end, with the URN certificate issued instantly in the same session.
If you're about to register, here's exactly what the portal will ask for, in what order, and the one place the process actually differs depending on your business's legal structure.
Step 1: Confirm You're on the Official Portal
The official portal's own homepage carries this warning: if a webpage asks for payment immediately after Aadhaar OTP validation or PAN entry, that page is not part of the official scheme. Registration is confirmed fee-free — treat any payment prompt during the process as a sign you're on a lookalike site, not udyamregistration.gov.in.
Step 2: Have These Ready Before You Start
- Aadhaar number — of the person specified in the entity-type table below
- PAN (Permanent Account Number) of the business/applicant
- GSTIN — required only if you're already GST-registered or above the GST threshold; businesses below the GST threshold can register without one
The One Thing That Varies by Entity Type: Whose Aadhaar
Beyond this single variable, the portal flow, data fields, fee status, and no-documents model are identical no matter what legal structure you're registering.

"MSME registration," "Udyam registration," and "Udyog Aadhaar registration" all refer to the same evolving government regime, not three different systems.
